Start creating content and put it out there. Develop a brand look, people will start recognizing your work. Stop caring how many likes a photo will get. It’s about the content not the likes. People don’t like something new, but once you start posting the same kinds of content, your tribe will come and those are the followers you REALLY want.

Reach out to companies you want to work WITH (DM and EMAIL). At first this was just for collabs. But I still reach out to companies that I want to collab with, for the creative freedom and for the exposure.

Reach out to companies you want to work FOR. Develop an engaging online portfolio and email the company listing why you love them and what you can do for them. If they seem interested- pitch competitive weekly packages you can provide. For me this was a package that included graphics, newsletters and some IG stories for a weekly price. This gave me consistent numbers I knew I would hit every week and made it easy to leave my full time job. This gave me the comfort of knowing my bread and butter would come from my graphic design clients, which would allow me to do and take on fun lettering projects that I wanted to do.

Create an AD or POST on craigslist, linkedin and IG letting people know you are available for hire. Also keep your audience in the loop about the journey you are on. Be real and don’t try to fake it.

Create a yelp page listing out your service.

Keep that IG looking amazing, consistent and constantly showing off the stuff you can do.
